Jewell County Community Foundation Donation
Midway Co-op Association, Inc. in conjunction with CoBank donated a total of $3,000 to the Jewell County Community Foundation.  CoBank is a regional cooperative that matches dollar-for-dollar cash donations from its local cooperative members like Midway Co-op through their annual Sharing Success Program. The donations are designed to support rural America by strengthening the communities they serve. Midway Coops donation of $1,500 was matched by CoBank for a total of $3,000.
“We appreciate CoBank and other regional cooperatives that invest back into our communities.  It is an easy decision for us to make our donation and apply for matching funds that double our donation and can make a real difference in our communities,” said Craig Mans, Midway Coop General Manager.
The Jewell County Community Foundation serves as a permanent source to address charitable community needs. Thanks to the support of the Dane G. Hansen Foundation and our donors, our investments continue to grow. We are composed of a board with residents from all over Jewell County who serve as voices for needs in their respective communities. We greatly value their service to the board which allows the Foundation to serve Jewell County to its fullest potential.
The goal of the Jewell County Community Foundation is to strengthen and sustain Jewell County communities, support Jewell County non-profits, and improve the quality of life in our county. The Foundation will also provide a place to capture a portion of the $90.4 million transfer of wealth (source KS Assoc. of Community Foundations) for Jewell County residents who want to leave their legacy in Jewell County with living gifts or their estates after they are gone. If each estate leaves just 5% in Jewell County, this would mean almost $4.7 Million to help support Jewell County communities in the future. That 5% will have a permanent impact on the betterment of their communities and be an everlasting legacy for the place we call home.
We are grateful to our community for their continued support and look forward to our future as we grow and evolve. If you have any questions about the Foundation, please contact Coordinator, Kyra Lampe, klampe@jewellcountycf.org or (785) 378-7036.

A newer threat, Theileria orientalis, a protozoan parasite spread by the invasive Asian Longhorned tick, has no treatment and requires rigorous parasite control and blood transmission protocols to mitigate its impact.
