Community Market Place Donation
Aug 05, 2022
Midway Co-op Association, Inc. in conjunction with CoBank donated a total of $10,000.00 to the Osborne Community Market Place. The funds will be used to update the heating and cooling of the Community Market Place building. CoBank is a regional cooperative that matches dollar-for-dollar cash donations from its local cooperative members like Midway Co-op through their annual Sharing Success Program. The donations are designed to support rural America by strengthening the communities they serve.
Community Market Place was started in Osborne in 1986 by Marguerite Hishke. It started out at 811 W Main and then move to a small building on the north side of Farmers National Bank as the bank was kind enough to allow it to operate rent free. After C & J Diner closed, the move was made to its current location at 118 E New Hampshire. It was a successful move! They now have a bathroom and a fitting room, but it took many volunteer hours to prepare the building and for the move. This has remained home since then.
Community Market Place has donated over $200,000 back to the community! The money is all generated by the sale of items donated to the Community Market Place. $200,000 is quite amazing, especially when most items cost only $1 in the store! All of the work at Community Market Place is completed by volunteers.
“We are proud to support The Community Market Place and the great work they do. Midway Coop continues to make improving our local communities a priority. We use every opportunity to match funds from our regional cooperatives to double our impact locally.” Pictured: Marcia Winder (Community Market Place board member) and Craig Mans (Midway Coop General Manager).
